Your wellbeing and vitamins

Vitamins play a multitude of roles in the body - ranging from aiding energy release from foods to helping support the immune system.

Some vitamins - the water soluble ones such as B and C - don’t hang around in the body and we need to top them up frequently. Others (the fat soluble ones such as vitamin A and D) can be stored in the body for longer periods of time, so although you need to use these vitamins daily, it is not a requirement to take these in as often.

You can get all the vitamins you need to help keep yourself and your family in good health by eating a healthy balanced diet.

Of course, none of us are perfect, and there are bound to be days when we don’t eat as well or healthily as we should. That’s why it’s good to know you can also choose fortified foods and drinks like ‘Minute Maid Nutri Top Up’ to help keep your vitamin levels topped up – especially in vitamins B and C.

Top Tips

  1. Eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day (you can count a glass of juice, a handful of dried fruit or serving of canned beans towards this total)
  2. Swap to high fibre (whole grain) versions of popular foods like beans, pasta, rice and breakfast cereals.
  3. Don’t have ready meals too often - try cooking simple meals from scratch
  4. Have a portion of oily fish in your diet every week such as mackerel, salmon and trout. Oily fish are rich in omega 3 fatty acids and good sources of vitamin A and D.
